“It is necessary to keep one’s compass in one’s eyes and not in the hand, for the hands execute, but the eye judges.”
–Michelangelo Buonarroti
I am inspired by a diversity of subjects that I explore through a multi-modal approach in which shapes, colors, and compositions are continually challenged by the materials at hand. The clarity of my glass pieces inspires me to obtain the same transparency in my oil paintings. My bronze and ceramic sculptures prompt me to think in multi-dimensional terms when I paint or draw. The interdisciplinary nature of my creative practice stimulates me to explore the connections between the fantastical nature of dreams, memories of distant landscapes, and moments of quietude embodied by everyday ephemera. In distilling the essence of a figure, a flower, or a vista, I approach the world as a forum of constant discovery and aim to translate its depth into impressionistic renderings that invoke visual pleasure.
